Our typical adoption fee is between $450 and $595. The adoption fee covers initial vaccinations, deworming, microchip and spay/neuter, as well as any other medical issues that need to be addressed prior to placement. Adult dogs over 1 year have an adoption fee is $450. Puppies under 1 year are $525 and puppies born in our care are $595.
We are often asked why we ask for an adoption fee. Some people reason that our dogs are rescue dogs and therefore should be free. Please take a look at the information below, which helps to explain why we have to charge an adoption fee and where the money from an adoption fee is applied.
Average cost of care for one dog:
Spay/neuter $350 (rescue pricing)
Vaccinations (rabies, distemper/parvo, bordetella) $100
Deworming $10
Microchip $45
Exam fees (avg) $75
Food and general care $100
Adoption fees are necessary to help support the care of animals in our rescue group . If you were to pay a similar, or much higher, fee through a breeder or pet store, not only would you not be helping an animal in need, you would be paying for intentional breeding that has led to the overpopulation of pets. Adoption fees also help to provide care for the other animals in our care, who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. In addition, the fees received act as a donation to help support our organization as a whole, allowing us to continue our efforts to rescue and re-home pets.
